Resolving slow loading, timeouts, and performance problems
Slow Page Loading
General Slowness
Try these steps in order:
- Refresh the page - Press F5 or Ctrl+R
- Clear browser cache - Ctrl+Shift+Delete
- Close other tabs - Free up browser memory
- Try a different browser - Chrome often performs best
- Check your internet - Run a speed test
- Restart your browser - Close and reopen
Specific Pages Slow
If only certain pages are slow:
- Large lists - Use filters to reduce data shown
- Reports - Select a smaller date range
- Exports - Large exports take time to generate
Timeout Errors
Request Timeout
If you see a timeout error:
- Wait a moment and try again
- Don't click multiple times (queues duplicate requests)
- Try a smaller operation (fewer records)
- Contact support if persistent
Session Timeout
If your session expires:
- You'll be redirected to the login page
- Log back in to continue
- Unsaved work may be lost
- Sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity
Export Performance
Excel Export Taking Too Long
- Large exports (1000+ rows) take time
- Wait for the download to complete
- Don't navigate away during generation
- Try filtering to reduce the data set
PDF Generation Slow
- PDF agreements include images and complex formatting
- First generation may be slower (caching)
- Bulk downloads are queued and processed in background
Network Issues
Intermittent Connection
- Check your WiFi/network connection
- Try connecting via ethernet if on WiFi
- Move closer to your router
- Contact your IT department if on corporate network
VPN Issues
If using a VPN:
- Some VPNs can slow down connections
- Try disconnecting VPN temporarily
- Contact IT if VPN is required
Browser Performance
Browser Using Too Much Memory
- Close unused tabs
- Disable unnecessary extensions
- Restart browser periodically
- Consider using a different browser for the portal
Tip: For best performance, use Google Chrome with no more than 10-15 tabs open. Close tabs you're not actively using.
Frequently Asked Questions
The page shows 'Loading...' indefinitely
Press F5 to refresh. If it persists, clear your cache (Ctrl+Shift+Delete), close and reopen the browser, then try again.
Exports are failing or timing out
Try reducing the amount of data by applying filters (single nursery, shorter date range). Very large exports may need to be done in batches.
The portal is slower than usual today
Heavy usage periods (start of term, deadlines) may affect speed. Try again during off-peak hours if possible. Contact support if consistently slow.
